Waterfront comes alive with Seaport Festival

Almost hidden in the shadows of Melbourne, on the shores of Hobsons Bay, just beyond the mouth of the Yarra River, lies the historic seaport of Williamstown. And coming up in February 2020, the Williamstown waterfront will come alive as it celebrates the inaugural ‘Williamstown Seaport Festival’ 28 February to 04 March.

Among the attractions will be the arrival of the tall ships, James Craig, Enterprize and Young Endeavour. The tall ships will arrive at Seaworks on the waterfront at approximately 1pm on Thursday 27 February and everyone’s invited to come down to see this spectacle, in addition there will be some formal presentations, music and a traditional owners smoking ceremony. Visitors are welcome to stay for a drink at the ‘Pirates Tavern’ and relax in the Seaworks alfresco area. Channel 10 will also be broadcasting their weather report from there.

The Williamstown Seaport Festival Waterfront activities include:

  • Farmers Market on Saturday and Sunday at John Morley Reserve
  • Yacht Clubs Open Days (including Discover Sailing, Entertainment and Activities)
  • Savages Wharf open for walk through from the motor yacht club.
  • C Blunts Boat Builders open for viewing
  • Williamstown Sailing Club
  • Navy Cadets Open
  • Twilight Market (2pm – 7pm) on Saturday in Commonwealth Reserve
  • Craft Market on Sunday in Commonwealth Reserve
  • HMAS Castlemaine (maritime museum) open
  • The Tall Ship Enterprize in dock at Gem Pier.

Seaworks Festival Zone (Ticketed Event, 29 Feb to 01 Mar)

This will be a hub of entertainment and a chance for visitors to board the amazing Tall Ships James Craig & Young Endeavour. Tickets are selling strongly and 4,000 visitors a day will come through from RYCV (part of Seaport Walk) and through the front of Seaworks. Highlights will include:

The Williamstown waterfront will be buzzing across the weekend and every Yacht Club, (there are 4 in close proximity) has live music across the weekend (open to members and non-members). Savages Wharf Marina and Blunts boatbuilders will open as well as the entertainment at Seaworks which will also host the Yacht Rock Revival Show (Sat night, 7pm onwards).

The inaugural Williamstown Seaport Festival is a celebration of the Williamstown’s maritime heritage, the local clubs, businesses and the community. It’s an event not to be missed.
