Survey of Australian Marina Industry

Survey of Australian Marina Industry

Over 300 marinas from across Australia are being invited to participate in a survey to gauge the economic, social and environmental health of the Australian marina industry. The survey has been conducted every two years since 2011 by the Recreational Marine Research Centre (RMRC) at Michigan State University in partnership with the Marina Industries Association (MIA).

Called the Club Marine (2019) Health of the Australian Marina Industry Survey, the associated report provides over 100 pages of data and analysis based on a robust sample of around 40% of Australia’s 320 marinas. The report provides national profile and performance data plus comparative data by state; by marina type and by marina size.

The CEO of MIA Colin Bransgrove is appealing to all marinas to participate in the 2019 survey. “As an industry we are very fortunate to have a high-quality survey conducted by RMRC. However the survey results are only as good as the sample size and the data provided by industry. The trend data and analysis provides a solid foundation on which to base financial and strategic planning decisions. It also underpins MIA and industries work to protect and to promote sustainable industry growth. For example, in 2017 national marina turnover was $1.4b and marinas employed 23,000 people contributing to stronger coastal communities. Marina payrolls have increased 32% since 2013. This and much more valuable data is only available with strong industry participation in the survey.”

Survey participation is open to all Australian marinas including non-MIA members and a free copy of the 100 page report will be provided free of charge to all survey participants. A copy of the 2017 Survey report is available at www.marinas.net.au.
