Parks Victoria will temporarily close boat launching facilities on weekdays at Patterson River from Tuesday 20 July to complete asphalting works to upgrade the car and trailer parking facilities.
The works are part of a $1.3 million upgrade to the Launching Way boat ramp facilities which include raising the level and sealing the car and trailer parking up to ramp three, a new retaining wall between ramp three and four, floating pontoons, landscaping and construction of a boardwalk.
“Once the works are complete, the upgrade will provide safer and more efficient access to the Patterson River boat ramps which is one of the busiest boat launching facilities in the southern hemisphere,” said Parks Victoria Ranger In Charge Reece Taranto.
Patterson River is a key location identified for significant public investment in the facilities and access as part of the State Government’s Bays and Maritime initiative.
Over the past 5 years the Victorian State Government, through Parks Victoria, has spent over $4 million on significant upgrades to facilities and boating access at the Launching Way boat ramps which facilitates over 50,000 boat launches every year
“The works have been scheduled on weekdays during the off peak season in order to minimise disruptions to recreational boat operators and to ensure the upgrade is complete and ready for the busy Snapper season in September,” said Mr Taranto.
“Parks Victoria is advising boat operators to launch their boats alternative boat launching facilities such as the Frankston or Mordialloc boat ramps during the closure period.” said Mr Taranto. Signage will be in place at the entrance to Launching Way alerting boat operators of the temporary closure.
Depending on weather conditions, the asphalting works and boat ramp closures are expected to be complete by Friday 30 July. The closures will not apply on weekends during the works.
The remaining upgrade works are expected to be complete by the end of August and have been jointly funded through Marine Safety Victoria and Parks Victoria.
