Seminar Series for Boaters

24 June 2010

Marine Safety Victoria (MSV) ran a successful series of seminars during the 2009-10 financial year at a range of clubs and organisations across Victoria.

They are now seeking expressions of interest from clubs that are interested in hosting these evenings over the next twelve months.

Subjects available are:
• Navigation
• Hazards on inland waterways
• Vessel maintenance
• Marine radio and emergency procedures
• Weather interpretation

There have been some changes to the way that the program is run and MSV is looking for clubs that can provide a venue and some light refreshments.

MSV will provide:
• The subject matter expert/s
• A facilitator
• Some light refreshments
• Prizes to be given away in a draw at the end of the evening
• The presentation resources (lap-top, projector, screen, MSV publications)

Both the club and MSV will promote the event. MSV will pay for media advertising where appropriate. The host club is expected to promote the event to its own members using its current communication channels.

The host club should be prepared to provide access to members of neighbouring groups, and members of the general public.

Interested clubs should contact Richard Peers at MSV by phone (03 9655 9779) or email Richard.Peers@transport.vic.gov.au with the following:
• Details of the venue (location and capacity)
• Proposed dates – it may be useful to tie these in with existing club nights
• Preferred topic
• An indication of how the club will publicise the event and an estimate of numbers expected
to attend (based on club membership and attendances at previous club events)

Last year’s series was extremely successful and these can be very entertaining, as well as informative, evenings.
