Sandringham Yacht Club seeks Club Coach

An opportunity exists to work for one of Australia’s leading yacht clubs, Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC), which is seeking an experienced full time Club Coach and Off the Beach (OFB) Program Co-ordinator.

SYC is a leader; not only in producing stand-out sailors and providing the best in training and facilities from its brand new premises in Melbourne, Victoria, but has also won many awards for its foresight and progressive attitude to sailing in general and its Green and Clean policies.

The Position:
The purpose of the position is to support the implementation and delivery of the SYC Club Coaching programs and to provide administrative support for the Off the Beach section and associated activities. Applicants would need to excel in the following key areas:

(a) Providing ‘ambassador’ advocacy and passion for prospective and existing members on the current and future services, which are provided by the OTB programs (and precinct) to support growth in dinghy sailing;

(b) Developing, overseeing and assisting in the delivery of the OTB and Keelboat coaching and training program(s) to expose SYCBA graduates and SYC members of all ages to sailing. This includes promotion and implementation of an ‘active pathway’ from the SYC Boating Academy into dinghy sailing and links to youth and adult development within the Club to keel boat racing;

(c) Co-ordination of SYC resources and the OTB precinct to support OTB growth while assisting the Boating Manager with development and management of the OTB precinct as a strategic component of the future of SYC.

The position is responsible for the translation of these objectives into a range of SYC program activities.

In addition to strategic work, the position will support all activities of the OTB Committee and Boating Department and will illicit the services of the support functions on the Club. The role also requires: - Specific Accountabilities/Deliverables. - Financial Responsibility/Authority - Supervisory Responsibilities

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform in each “specific accountability” satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience: Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a business-related discipline; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience. A background in competency-based training is desirable.

Mandatory certification will include: - YA Basic Skills Instructor Level 1 (NCAS Sailing Instructor) - Level 1(NCAS) Club Coach (as a minimum) - A current Working With Children (WWC) card

The position also requires strong - Verbal and written language skills - Reasoning Ability - Negotiation skills - Physical fitness

Working Conditions: As the target audiences for boating programs are usually involved in weekday work and are thus only available at weekends, considerable flexibility in working hours will be required to successfully perform in this job, including some out-of-normal-hours work on weekdays and weekends. Time in lieu is provided for significant blocks of time worked outside a normal working week (e.g. major regattas), consistent with the norms for a senior position.

As the key deliverer of the various coaching and OTB programs you will be required on Saturday and Sunday to perform your job. Seasonal rosters to be determined in conjunction with the CEO and the Boating Manager.
