Low Carbon Certification for Jetty Builder

21 November 2008

The certification of Gold Coast based Superior Jetties as a low carbon marina industries business was recognised at a recent Queensland marine industry seminar.

Paul Martyn, Executive Director at the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry (DTRDI) made the presentation to Jackie Hogan of Superior Jetties.  He congratulated the company on providing leadership in reducing carbon emissions and he encouraged more marine businesses to take up participation in such initiatives.

The initiative is a joint venture between the Carbon Reduction Institute (CRI) and the Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA). The MIAA has set a goal of a 20% reduction in the operational carbon footprint of Australian marinas by 2015.  The MIAA believe it is important industry take the lead in reducing carbon emissions and not wait for government to set regulatory requirements.

Superior Jetties is an Australian owned company that has over twenty years of industry experience manufacturing a large range of quality pontoons, and marine berthing and boat lift systems. "Superior Jetties is a proud supporter of the MIAA and very keen to ensure we support valuable initiatives such as the Low Carbon Initiative" said John Hogan, Managing Director of Superior Jetties.

“We're also a very proud Australian Manufacturer, so it's equally important that we're the first Australian owned marina manufacturing company to support the initiative”, Mr Hogan went on to say. The Executive Officer of MIAA Mr Colin Bransgrove said Superior Jetties are sending a good message about reducing carbon production to both Australian and overseas businesses.

Mr Bransgrove also thanked the Queensland government for their on-going support of the Low Carbon Initiative and the MIAA’s Clean Marinas Program. “Industry appreciate the opportunity to partner with government in increasing the uptake of industry driven environmental initiatives” he said

The presentation ceremony took place 19 November at the Port of Brisbane as part of a DTRDI sponsored marine seminar entitled ‘sustainable marine business processes – vital in the changing climate’.
