Brush up on leisure skills at Leisurefest

18 August 2010

Off-road towing, recreational boating and reversing a caravan are just some of the things you can learn about at Melbourne Leisurefest.

Whether your interest is on the water, on the road or way off-road, Leisurefest has a wealth of advice (and entertainment) at Sandown Racecourse from 30 September to 3 October.

Aspiring boaties can take Recreational Boat Operators Licence training from Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association (AVCGA) approved by Marine Safety Victoria (MSV).

The course runs for 3 ½ hours followed by a test, and is available to people aged 12 and over.

Registration is at 11.30 am each day, with the course starting at 12.15 pm, and participants must bring a learner’s or driver’s licences for identification or one primary and one secondary form of ID. Please contact 0408 38 492 to verify the correct identification.

Cost is $70 for the boat test, $40 for a personal watercraft test, or $90 for both, and successful participants receive an MSV certificate which they then take to Vic Roads to apply  for the relevant licence.

Proven Leisurefest favorites are the on-road and off-road towing demonstrations, with the 4x4 Track run by experts from Four Wheel Drive Victoria and the on-road towing demonstrations given by Tow-Ed instructors.

For those who would like to boost their confidence when reversing a van or trailer, this year there will be tips and demonstrations on reversing plus the opportunity to actually get in the car and try it.

Families can be sure of a good time at Leisurefest, with action-packed kids’ activities from Friday to Sunday, plus the chance to meet Frankie J Holden from What’s Up Down Under and Peter “Spida” Everitt from Great Australian Doorstep.

Melbourne Leisurefest has grown even bigger for its third year, with an extra 4,000 square metres of displays, a lot more camper trailer and caravan exhibitors, including all-new brands, plus a big presence by four-wheel-drive clubs, accessory suppliers and holiday destinations.

Melbourne Leisurefest runs from Thursday 30 September to Sunday 3 October at Sandown Racecourse, Springvale, from 10am to 5pm daily. Developed from the RV & Camping Leisurefest, it is a joint venture by the Caravan Trade & Industries Association of Victoria (CTIAV), Boating Industry Association (BIA) of Victoria and Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC).
