September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness month. Last year, the Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron (BMYS) responded to an invitation from the Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia (PCFA) to run a fund raiser under the banner of their national “Big Aussie Barbie” initiative.
With the considerable help from a small but active number of members, BMYS was, with just three weeks preparation, able to raise just over $7000 for PCFA .
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in Australia, with over 20,000 Aussie men diagnosed each year. It kills more men each year than breast cancer kills women, yet it has relatively low awareness and funding.
BMYS is again running a Big Aussie Breakfast – Brunch at the club on Saturday 16 September. This year, with more time to prepare, they’ve partnered with the Bicycle Superstore Group (8 retail outlets in Melbourne and Geelong) and other key supporters to put together an exciting morning of family fun and entertainment with thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes to be won by way of raffles, silent auctions and various competitions.
The Bicycle Superstore Group is using their professional and social media to attract many of the Beach Road recreational cyclists to join the fun at the Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron, Beach Road Beaumaris (opposite Cromer Road) There’ll be family entertainment from 10am to 1pm including;
- Breakfast – Brunch
- Morning tea, coffee & cakes
- Free music,
- Raffles & competitions with heaps of prizes
- Clown, Magician, Face painting,
- Security parking for bikes,
