BIAV Launches Safe Boating Season 2017-2018

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) on Friday, 20 October, launched the opening of Victoria’s Safe Boating Season for 2017/2018 at St Kilda Marina.

Together with leaders of the marine sector including Maritime Safety Victoria and Life Saving Victoria, and various emergency management organisations including the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, Victorian Water Police and Victorian Marine Rescue, BIAV is encouraging Victorian boaters to be proactive about safe boating.

“With close to 1 million Victorians going boating every year, the safe boating lifestyle is a gift that can only be sustainable if we all keep our shoulders to the safety wheel,” said Mark Crockford, BIAV President.  “Together the safe boating season starts with the leaders of the marine sector and I call on all Victorian recreational boaters to place theirs and their crew’s safety at the top of the list.”

Also speaking at the event were Gareth Johnson, Manager of Recreational Boating Safety at Maritime Safety Victoria who highlighted some safety measures boaters should take while out on the water, including the new Marine Radio Victoria service that can pick up distress calls along the coast; and Andrew Foran, General Manager for Lifesaving Development at Life Saving Victoria, who are partners with BIAV on the Play It Safe By The Water campaign.
